What are the PoE (Power over Ethernet) limitations on an NSR?

The PoE modules are PoE+ (802.3at Type 2). The inrush power is limited by the PoE chip to 425 mA during power on per IEEE specification. Then this limit is changed to the programmed limit once inrush is completed.  The programmed limit is the power limit configured for that device: Auto, 6W, 12W, 18W, 24W or 30W. By default, the configuration is Auto, which means the power limit is set accordingly to the device PoE Class. For Class 0 to Class 3, the limit is 425 mA; for Class 4, the limit is 850 mA.  The device Class is shown on Network :: Switch :: PoE.

If the inrush power is exceeded, the Startup Overcurrent status will be shown on the related PoE port.  When this occurs, it is prudent to check the cabling for possible short circuits.  Here are the recommended steps to to reset this status:

From the GUI:
  1. Go to Network :: Switch :: PoE
  2. Select the port with Startup Overcurrent state
  3. Click Reset Power Status
From CLI:
  1. Run these commands
    1. Note: replace netS#-# with the name of the affected port
cd /settings/switch_poe/poe_interfaces
show
reset_power_status netS#-#
