How to on-board a SNMPv3 managed PDU into the Nodegrid OS

Objective

The objective of this article is to give the configuration steps to on-board a smart PDU into the Nodegrid OS -in the case the Nodegrid manages the PDU in SNMPv3. The model chosen for the PDU is a Raritan PX4.

Configuration

  1. On the PDU:
First, you have to configure on the PDU the SNMPv3.
Go to Device Settings -> Network Services -> SNMP, and enable the SNMP v3:

Then, configure the security protocols and passwords, in User Management -> Edit user (admin):

  1. On the Nodegrid:
In Managed Devices :: Devices, click on 'Add', an fill-in the following fields:
- Type: 'pdu_raritan'
- Enter the IP address of the PDU.
- Enter the credentials of the PDU.
- Select 'enable device state detection based on network traffic (icmp)'
- Web URL: https://%IP
- Mode : 'On-demand'

Then, in Managed Devices :: Devices :: PDU_x:: Management, select 'SNMP', the version 'Version 3', and fill-in the username, the security level, the algorithms for Authentication and Privacy, as well as the respective passwords.
Please note that they DO HAVE TO MATCH the ones previously entered on the PDU.

Finally, in Managed Devices :: Devices :: PDU_x:: Commands :: Outlet, select the protocol SNMP:

Optionally, you can force the auto-discovery process, by going to Managed Devices :: Auto Discovery :: Discover Now, select the PDU_x, and click on 'Discover Now':

Visualization

As a result, in Access, click on the PDU_x: you can see that the PDU's statuses are correctly reflected (upon click on 'Outlet Status'):
