How to on-board a KVM-IP switch (Raritan DKX) into the Nodegrid OS

Objective

The purpose of this article is to give the configuration steps to on-board into the Nodegrid OS software a KVM-IP switch from Raritan (a DKX). 

Overview

The configuration has 3 major steps: 
- Declare the DKX appliance
- Create the template of discovery of the DKX' ports. 
- Create and apply the associated discovery rule. 

Configuration

  1. Appliance DKX: 
In Managed Devices, click on 'Add', and fill-in the following fields: 
- Type: kvm_raritan
- IP address of the DKX
- Web URL: https://%IP
- Credentials of the DKX, choose 'Set Now'.
- Mode: on-demand
- End Point: Appliance
- Select 'Enable device state detection based on network traffic (icmp)'.


  1. Template for the ports of the DKX: 

In Managed Devices, click on 'Add', and fill-in the following fields: 

- Type: kvm_raritan
- Do not fill-in any IP address. 
Web URL: https://%IP
- Do not set any credentials. 
- Mode: Disabled
- End Point: select 'Serial port', do not set any Port Number.
- Select 'Enable device state detection based on network traffic (icmp)'. 

  1. Discovery Rule: 
In Managed Devices :: Auto Discovery :: Discovery Rules, click on 'Add', and fill-in the following fields:
- Status: Enabled
- Discovery Method: select 'KVM ports'. Leave empty the fields 'Appliance Identifier' and 'Port List'.
- Action: Clone Mode On-demand
- Clone from: select the template created in the previous step. 
- Select: 'Enforce Device Type'
- Select: 'Inherit Appliance credentials'.



Visualization

Go to Access :: Tree, to see the DKX appliance along with the KVM ports that have been -automatically- discovered.
