Hostname Detection allows automatic discovery of target devices based on login banners and prompt.
Sometimes hostname of the device is not detected due to no match to the default strings, and admin has an option to add the new match string.
Configuration via WebUI
1. Log in as admin and go to Managed Devices and then select Auto Discovery.
2. Select Hostname Detection. one can add the hostname detection string here.
3. Click Add and select the string type . For an example, select Match .
4. Enter the string and Click Save.
To get the new hostname discovery for newly created device,
5. Select Discover Now. Select the device in the list and Click Discover Now.
Go back to Access page to confirm whether hostname has been discovered. Click Reload to refresh the page.
Note: If the device does not have a hostname in the device's login prompt or in the shell/cli prompt, then the serial port name will not be changed. One can rename the port's name manually.
Configuration via CLI
1. Log in as admin in CLI (via telnet/ssh/console)
2. Navigate to /settings/auto_discovery/hostname_detection/string_settings
3. Type, add
4. Use the set command to define string_type as either Match or Probe (set string_type=Match or Probe)
5. Use the set command to set string (set string=string)
6. Save the change with commit
7. Navigate to /settings/auto_discovery/discover_now/
8. Type, discover_now <device_name> (Use ls command to list devices)
