Accessing the target device

Accessing the target device

Introduction:

The Nodegrid Manager has the flexibility to allow multiple ways of accessing the target device console connection that is managed by the Nodegrid. Whether it is for Automation purposes or simply the convenience, having different access methods helps users to work with what is most familiar to the end user.

Steps:

No console port

For a device that is without console port the IP address can be used to SSH to the end device. Different methods of accessing the end devices are:
  1. SSH with IP Aliases
  2. SSH with custom port number
  3. Connect to end device from the CLI
  4. Web services if it available in the target device from the Nodegrid WebUI
Select "Managed Devices::Devices" then click on "Add"

Set the parameters for Name, IP Address, user credential and Mode to Enabled or on Demand. Click Save at the top of the screen.

Although this is not normally done for IP Devices, "IP Alias, SSH custom port" can be used to access the end device directly through the Nodegrid appliance:

Setting the IP Alias and/or custom port number allows direct access to the end target from the user PC without the need to access the Nodegrid first.

With Serial port:

The user has the capabilities to access the console port of the end device:
  1. Serial access from the Nodegrid WebUI
  2. Connect to end device from the CLI
  3. SSH with IP Aliases
  4. SSH with custom port number
  5. Web services if it available in the target device from the Nodegrid WebUI

All the available commands can be added in the Nodegrid Manager "Managed Devices::Devices" by clicking on the name of the target device and then the "Commands" menu allows user to add new commands for target device access.
